About our Home

Our home has a peaceful riverside setting where you can relax and watch the visiting wild life including; swans, king fishers and even a resident deer family. Located opposite a park of weeping willows we have the feel of living in the countryside yet, a ten-minute walk down the towpath and you can be shopping in a department store in Bedford town centre. There is a twice weekly open-air market which is walkable or as we prefer a pleasant boat trip away. There are wonderful river and countryside walks, all starting from the back gate. This includes the Bunyon Trail and National cycle track 51 which opens up the Bedfordshire countryside to you. One of our favourite walks is to the Three Tuns public house, through the golf course (which is open to non members) and into the thatched village of Biddenham. For years they have made house bricks in Bedfordshire from the local clay and as a result there are now numerous lakes that have now been turned into aquatic recreation centres. Bedford is centrally placed with excellent road and public transport links. (Cambridge 28 miles, Oxford 55 miles, Central London 58 miles). The high-speed train takes 33 minutes to Kings Cross, London from Bedford station. Bedford is a multi cultural town, which is reflected, in the diversity in cuisine. There are restaurants to suit all tastes; Indian, Chinese, Italian and French.

About us

Since our retirement, John after 30 years in the Police and Lyn from HR consultancy we have spent much time travelling in the UK and abroad. Our interests are walking (long distance footpaths), windsurfing, tennis and navigating the backwaters of England and Wales in our barge. We are looking for an exchange of between 3 weeks and 2 months, not necessarily simultaneous . We are looking for various travel dates for ourselves beyond October 2012 but our home is available before and after.
